General
Here-> CLICK
The GentleWatt app controls compatible Tasmota-ESP32 sockets locally in your home network – no cloud required. It offers mode buttons OFF / LOW / MID / HIGH, precise power/energy values, pull-to-refresh, and helpful status badges.
We call original hardware that is factory-equipped with the GentleWatt function a GentleWatt socket. These devices have an internal serial number so the app automatically recognizes them as GentleWatt – the app is free and unlimited for these devices.
- iOS from version 14
- Android from version 10
- Requirement: 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi on the same network as the socket
Compatible smart sockets with ESP32 and Tasmota (recommended from version 13.0.0). Original GentleWatt models are already prepared accordingly and are recognized automatically.
Installation & Setup
- Make sure your phone/tablet is on the same 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi as the socket.
- Open the app → start device discovery.
- Select the found device and confirm.
- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (no 5 GHz for the socket)
- Phone on the same network, no active VPN/proxy
- Router options like AP isolation should be disabled for IoT devices
Yes. The FriendlyName is automatically adopted and updated regularly. Very long names are shortened with an ellipsis from about 20 characters.
Detection & Licensing
Original GentleWatt sockets have an internal serial number. The app shows the “GentleWatt” badge and lifts any free-tier limits.
- Original GentleWatt sockets: always free & unlimited.
- App purchase/restore: lifts all limits with third-party devices.
- Free mode (third-party): max. 1 standard device and 10 power-on events. Afterwards “Free Limit” + UI lock (deleting remains possible).
After purchase/restore, all locks and counters are lifted immediately.
Features & Operation
OFF / LOW / MID / HIGH. Depending on the setup, the socket applies the selected mode. The OFF button is visually distinct (design differentiation, no special GentleWatt function, simply on/off).
Note: “To change the mode, the socket is switched off automatically. Changing during an active charging phase is not possible. After the change, switch the socket on again to start the new mode.”
- Light polling: power status & basic values at short intervals
- Heavy polling: energy values (e.g., power, Today, Total) at longer intervals
With pull-to-refresh you can reload everything instantly.
Network & Discovery
Primarily via mDNS, with an ARP/Ping fallback. If discovery finds nothing, you can enter the IP address manually in the app.
- Check 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and the same SSID for phone & socket
- Temporarily disable VPN/firewall/private DNS on the phone
- Check router options like AP isolation/guest network
- Restart socket/router; enter IP manually
- If the socket is actually on the network, it will be enrolled
Power Measurement & Energy
- Power (W)
Accuracy depends on the socket’s measurement IC and the Tasmota calibration. For best precision, we recommend calibrating according to the Tasmota guide. GentleWatt sockets are already calibrated!
Language, App Icon & Updates
Yes, DE/EN. The app automatically detects the OS language and falls back to English if needed.
App updates are delivered via the respective stores. Firmware updates (Tasmota) are managed separately and must be performed manually if required.
Troubleshooting
- Ensure the same 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for phone & socket
- Temporarily disable VPN/firewall/private DNS on the phone
- Check AP isolation/guest network on the router
- Restart router & socket; enter IP manually
You’re using a non-original standard device in free mode. After 10 power-on events, the UI is locked. Solutions:
- Purchase/restore the app (removes all limits), or
- Use an original GentleWatt socket (always free).
Very old versions (e.g., 6.x) sometimes return differing/missing JSON fields (e.g., Power1 instead of Power). Solution: update Tasmota (recommended ≥ 12.0.0).
- Ensure you’re signed in with the same Apple ID/Google ID used for the purchase.
- Use Restore purchases in the app.
- If store issues persist, contact Apple/Google support.
- Check Tasmota calibration
- Ensure a stable Wi-Fi connection
- Use solid power connections (avoid loose multi-adapters)
Support & Legal
In the app under Help → Support or Send logfile, select a device, attach the logfile, and open the email draft. Please describe your setup (model, firmware, router) and the steps to reproduce the issue.
Statutory provisions and retailer information apply. Use products only as intended (power, environment, protection rating). The app is designed for local control in the home network.
